Armenia hits against UN walls And again zero!

18 August 2023 12:05

As is the case, the emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation around the Lachin road ended in a complete fiasco for the Armenian diplomacy. At the behest of Armenia itself and the Armenian diaspora, it was, as assumed by the initiators, to discuss the “humanitarian crisis” that arose after the “closure” of the Lachin-Khankandi road.

More precisely, there was some talk, but it did not grow into high-profile discussions to denounce Azerbaijan as the organizer of the "genocide" of the Garabagh Armenians as suggested by the latter.

The world has already been convinced of Yerevan’s ability to falsify arguments and facts many times, but this time, the Armenian propagandists launched an anti-Azerbaijani campaign very persistently and obsessively with heartbreaking cries about “Garabagh Armenians are doomed to starvation because of Baku’s cruelty”.

However, there was already a demonstrative lesson - with the same “blockade” and “genocide”, Armenia was already knocking on these doors, namely the UN Security Council, but it was told go whistle. Then Yerevan offered to hold discussions in the formidable UN body about border clashes with Azerbaijan, but no one was interested in the wishes.

However, this did not prevent Armenia and its paid well-doers in the US Congress, in the French Senate and other power bodies of different countries from continuing to denigrate Azerbaijan internationally. But again, failure, in fact - a fiasco. In a nutshell, the delegations of different countries in the UN Security Council talked about the “problem” of the Garabagh Armenians and peacefully dispersed, without adopting any resolutions or statements, against Armenia’s expectations.

Out of this whole event, two conclusions arise: first, the UN made it clear to Armenia that it should solve its problems with Azerbaijan at the existing negotiating platforms, and not bring them to the level of global structures; second, the fiasco of the Armenian diplomacy was a clear confirmation that international law is on the side of Azerbaijan, period! And now a logical question for all Armenians: how will Armenia talk about peace with Azerbaijan after such a failure in the Security Council? After all, it is absolutely obvious that Armenia has dealt a significant blow to the peace process, and it is still completely unclear how it will get out of this diplomatic impasse.

Yerevan does not have any real arguments refuting the genuineness of Baku's position. And while our neighbor is ignoring all the lessons of the past, Azerbaijani diplomats are analyzing and taking everything into account, and then competently, without unnecessary pathos, present their arguments to the world community.

It is appropriate to add in this regard that Azerbaijan has acquired new positive touches to its political image in recent years by chairing the Non-Aligned Movement. Vigorous activities to bolster the movement brought positive results, primarily because justice and the laws of international law are completely on Azerbaijan’s side with the charismatic leader at the head of the state, skillfully calculating all the subtleties and nuances of the state’s foreign policy.

As for the main points of the UN Security Council meeting, which predetermined its positive outcome for Azerbaijan, it should be noted first of all the brilliant speech of Azerbaijan’s UN Permanent Representative Yashar Aliyev, in which he drew the attention of those present to the main aspects of the Armenian-Azerbaijani agenda and the actions of Armenia, torpedoing negotiations.

In particular, he informed about the campaign undertaken by Yerevan to misinform the international community and mislead it about what is happening in Garabagh and about Azerbaijan's position on this issue. The Azerbaijani diplomat strongly rejected Armenia's unsubstantiated allegations "about the blockade and the humanitarian crisis" in the region, saying that in this way, Yerevan is trying to undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

The extremely reasoned and objective speech of the Azerbaijani diplomat was supported by his Turkish counterpart Sadat Onal, stating that “Türkiye, as a country directly interested in stability and security in the region, as well as an active actor in initiatives, is seriously concerned about Armenia’s attempts to use international platforms to express politically motivated allegations, including on the topic of the Lachin road.”

In addition to fraternal Türkiye, the representatives of Albania and Brazil called for paying heed to Azerbaijan’s position, reminding their colleagues at the UN that the Aghdam-Khankandi road was open, which was an unequivocal proposal to Yerevan to use this option if the Garabagh Armenians really had "humanitarian needs".

Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, specifically called for considering the use of the Aghdam-Khankandi road, noting that Russia had proposed realistic compromise solutions to de-escalate tensions.

The United States even noted the possibility of a compromise on additional routes for the delivery of humanitarian cargo, implying the use of the Aghdam-Khankandi road proposed by Azerbaijan. US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield confirmed the transfer of over 700 people in need of medical care along the Lachin road.

It is crystal clear that Armenia's manipulations are not only unproductive in terms of advancing the agenda for the normalization of relations in the post-conflict period, but also extremely destructive. At the same time, Azerbaijan's position remains unchanged - Baku is set for a constructive dialogue with Yerevan to normalize relations and is ready to contribute to achieving the long-awaited peace and stability in the region.

Summing up the outcome of yesterday's UN Security Council meeting, it can be noted that a weighty argument in favor of Azerbaijan was the fact that Baku once again convinced the international community of the legitimacy of its actions on its territory and brought Yerevan, as they say, to light, competently besieging Armenian diplomacy and enlisting the support for its territorial integrity from a number of states. The UN Security Council recognized that Azerbaijan is guided by international laws and is competent in its actions on its ancestral territory.
