Armenia imposes no martial law
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that he does not consider it appropriate to impose martial law in the country.
He made the remarks at the Armenian government meeting on September 16, Caliber.Az reports quoting the Armenian media.
Pashinyan said that the Armenian-Azerbaijani border situation remains tense, and the issue of martial law was discussed at the meeting of the Armenian Security Council.
"However, we have come to the conclusion that there is no need to declare martial law at the moment. On the other hand, we receive proposals from many citizens, there are also those who actually expected us to introduce martial law to participate in the country's defence," the prime minister said.
Pashinyan stated that "at the Security Council meeting, a decision was made that citizens who want to take up arms can do so in the usual way, by contacting local military enlistment offices, and the issue will be resolved. Furthermore, the previously announced three-month military training camps continue to operate.
There are all legal grounds for voluntarily involving citizens [in military service]".
