Armenia set to deploy cutting-edge passport control technology at all borders
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has announced plans to implement modern, technology-driven border control mechanisms across Armenia’s borders, including the frontier with Azerbaijan. The initiative aims to enhance security and streamline border crossings by incorporating automated passport control systems that minimize human intervention.
Speaking during a government hour session in parliament, Pashinyan addressed questions concerning the regulation of Azerbaijani citizens’ entry should communication channels between the two countries be restored, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
He emphasized that the government intends to deploy advanced border control technologies not only at the Azerbaijan border but also along Armenia’s frontiers with Georgia, Iran, Türkiye, as well as at international airports.
“These systems will primarily operate autonomously, with border guards intervening only when suspicious individuals are detected,” Pashinyan explained, highlighting the shift towards more efficient and secure border management.
