Armenian MP doubts completion of border delimitation with Azerbaijan by yearend
The process of delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border cannot be completed by the end of the year, according to an Armenian MP.
The statement was voiced by the Armenian ruling Civil Contract faction’s member, head of the standing committee on defence and security of the Armenian Parliament Andranik Kocharyan, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“Of course not, but the process is underway and temporary restrictions should not be an obstacle. You know that we have this problem with another neighbour and it has been going on for decades,” he said.
According to him, it is important to agree that this process could be long and unhindered, and if time limits are set, the process will not move forward.
“The main thing is for us to have such a document on internationally recognized borders on the table, to be able to solve the problems of delimitation and demarcation within its framework,” Kocharyan noted.
He added that the issues of delimitation and demarcation are related to the peace treaty, but do not have a mandatory condition for a simultaneous solution.
In addition, an MP from the Civil Contract faction, Sargis Khandanyan, specified that the matter concerns the intention to complete only the delimitation process by the end of the year, while demarcation is a completely different lengthy process.
