Moscow counts on Trump to keep negotiation path open in Ukraine, FM says
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow hopes US President Donald Trump remains committed to a peaceful resolution in Ukraine and upholds the principles agreed upon at the Alaska summit, which were formulated based on American proposals.
“Leaders of most European countries are exerting every effort to convince the US administration to abandon the idea of resolving the Ukraine conflict by addressing its root causes at the negotiating table. Nevertheless, we remain hopeful that President Trump genuinely seeks a resolution to the Ukrainian crisis and will adhere to the principles established at the Anchorage summit, which were based on American proposals,” Lavrov said, TASS reports.
He made the remarks during the International Conference on Eurasian Security held in Minsk, emphasizing Russia’s expectation that dialogue and negotiation remain central to resolving the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.
Lavrov emphasized that, in the context of Ukraine, it is the European NATO members who are “extending the armed conflict by arming the Kyiv government and furnishing it with financial and political backing.”
