Armenian national Arkadi Ghukasyan testifies on Khojaly genocide at Baku Military Court

21 April 2025 14:36

During a hearing at the Baku Military Court on April 21, Armenian national Arkadi Ghukasyan answered questions related to the Khojaly genocide, committed on the night of February 25-26, 1992, involving the systematic killing of innocent civilians solely for being Azerbaijani.

Ghukasyan stated that he first learned about the events in Khojaly from “official sources” in February 1992, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

“At the time, we did not know the full extent of the tragedy. We were aware that hundreds of Azerbaijanis from Khojaly had been brought to Khankendi. Later, they were handed over to the other side,” he said.

Ghukasyan also condemned the killing of civilians: “It is unacceptable. This is one of the bloodiest chapters of the war.”

For the record, the trial in Baku continues against Armenian citizens charged with crimes against peace and humanity stemming from Armenian military aggression. The charges include war crimes, the planning and waging of aggressive war, genocide, violations of the laws and customs of war, terrorism, financing of terrorism, the violent seizure and retention of power, and numerous other offences.
