Armenian parliament speaker says Russia fails to fulfil arms supply commitments
Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan believes that the "arms issue" between Moscow and Yerevan can be resolved and the Russian side has a chance to show that it remains committed to its principles and signed documents.
Simonyan said this in a conversation with journalists in parliament, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
"However, this will in no way affect Armenia's decision to ensure its security," the head of the legislative body said.
According to him, if the commitments are not fulfilled, "and it is a fact that they are not fulfilled, Armenia must protect its own interests", and there can be no other opinion here.
To recall, the Armenian authorities said that Russia had failed to deliver arms and military equipment under the contract under which the funds were transferred. The exact amount was not officially named, according to some sources it is about $250 million, according to others - about $400 million.
Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, answering citizens' questions in a direct line, said that the issue of writing off the debt to Russia on the part of the mentioned funds was being worked out.
