Russia's Rosatom reaffirms Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant as top priority
The Bushehr nuclear power plant project in Iran remains a priority for Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, CEO Alexey Likhachev told reporters.
“We treat our customers with deep respect. Of course, we have not removed the Bushehr plant from our priorities. Work continues at our metallurgical and engineering facilities on the necessary equipment. Despite the difficulties, Bushehr is a priority, and we will continue working on it,” he said.
Likhachev emphasised that Russia is primarily concerned with resolving Iran’s nuclear issue.
“We welcome the search for compromises and support oversight, including by the IAEA, over what is happening. However, the IAEA must assume a certain responsibility and act in the interests of all sides and all participants in this conflict. This is a very important function, and it should not be aligned with only one side, regardless of how many parties are involved,” he noted.
Likhachev also said that Rosatom is moving forward with agreements, including with local businesses, to develop a fleet of floating nuclear power plants in Indonesia. In addition, the company has submitted proposals to the Philippines for large, small, and floating nuclear power plants, with decisions expected at the intergovernmental level.
