Kazakhstan considers blocking wheat imports for six months
17 June 2026 16:03
Kazakhstan plans to introduce a six-month ban on wheat imports, including shipments from fellow members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), under a draft order prepared by the country’s Ministry of Agriculture.
The restrictions will not apply to transit shipments or to wheat delivered by rail for poultry farms, flour-milling enterprises, licensed grain elevators, and the state-owned Food Contract Corporation, Caliber.Az reports per Kazakh media.
However, any imported grain covered by these exemptions will not be allowed to enter the domestic retail market for free sale.
The Ministry of Agriculture said the proposed measures are aimed at supporting domestic producers and stabilising conditions in Kazakhstan’s grain market.
