Russian drone gets protection against first-person view interceptors
The Russian high-speed reconnaissance drone Supercam S180 has been equipped with an optical and radio-frequency detection system designed to protect it from drone interceptors, according to the UAV manufacturer group Unmanned Systems.
The company said that an additional camera has been installed to monitor the rear and upper hemispheres, enabling automatic object recognition and warning of approaching first-person view drones (FPV), Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“For additional protection against FPV drones, an optical and radio-frequency detection system has been introduced. An extra camera is installed on the UAV to observe the rear and upper hemispheres, which can automatically identify objects and signal the approach of an FPV drone,” a company representative noted.
The firm also stated that the Supercam S180’s flight endurance has been doubled.
It can now fly for more than four hours, while its maximum speed has also increased.
This allows the drone to conduct aerial reconnaissance behind the line of contact while crossing high-risk areas at maximum speed, the company added.
