Armenian PM congratulates Maia Sandu on her re-election as Moldova's president

04 November 2024 20:10

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan congratulated Maia Sandu on her re-election as President of Moldova.

In a post on his X account, Pashinyan expressed his eagerness to collaborate in strengthening bilateral relations, emphasizing the historical ties and shared democratic values between the two nations, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.

“Sincere congratulations to Maia Sandu for the victory in the presidential elections in Moldova. Looking forward to working together to enhance our bilateral relations, anchored in our historic ties and shared fundamental values of democracy,” Pashinyan said in a post on X.

Incumbent President Maia Sandu has emerged in the lead against her opponent in Moldova's presidential runoff, according to preliminary results released by the country's electoral authority late on November 3.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Moldova reported that Sandu has secured just over 52 per cent of the votes, while Alexandr Stoianoglo, the former prosecutor general, has garnered nearly 48 per cent, with more than 95 per cent of ballots counted.

All polling stations in Moldova have now reported their results, and the vote from the diaspora, which is largely seen as supportive of Sandu, is expected to play a crucial role in determining the election's final outcome.

Initially, the CEC indicated that Stoianoglo had received more than 51 per cent of the votes, while Sandu had just over 48 per cent after approximately 86 per cent of the ballots had been counted.
