Armenian PM says upcoming parliamentary elections crucial for peace with Azerbaijan
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia is highly significant and important for the ongoing process of peace with Azerbaijan.
Speaking at the Paris Peace Forum, the premier highlighted the TRIPP project (also known as the Trump Route) and emphasised the importance of its implementation for Armenia and Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
“Regional connectivity means that we will have the opportunity—I mean both Armenia and Azerbaijan—to use each other’s territory for domestic, bilateral, and international communication. This also means that a new route for international transit will open through our territory,” Pashinyan said.
"Given that the world is currently experiencing a supply chain crisis, this could really change the situation both for international trade and for our region,” the prime minister emphasised.
He added that communication channels will be opened from the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman to the Black Sea, there will be new connections between the Caspian and Mediterranean Seas, and new opportunities will be created for Armenia.
For the record, Armenia's upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled for June 7, 2026, mark the first regularly scheduled national vote since 2017 and the first full-term contest under Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's leadership since the 2021 snap elections. This vote will determine the composition of the unicameral National Assembly (parliament), which in turn nominates the prime minister—the country's most powerful position in its parliamentary republic system established by the 2015 constitutional reforms.
