Azerbaijan aims to set regional benchmark in sustainable city development at WUF13
Hosting the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Azerbaijan carries special significance for the country, Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture and national coordinator for the event, said during a press conference in Baku.
Guliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan is achieving notable progress in the sustainable development of urban settlements, Caliber.Az reports.
He noted that in the contemporary era, sustainable urban development constitutes an essential foundation for effective city planning, simultaneously promoting environmental stewardship, economic advancement, and the well-being of citizens, underscoring the nation’s dedication to environmentally responsible and people-centered urban design.
Building on this vision, Elnur Baghirov, Chairman of the Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control State Agency under the President of Azerbaijan, underscored the broader benefits of hosting WUF13. “Major international events such as WUF13 provide Azerbaijan with invaluable experience while also serving as a global platform to present our country to the world,” Baghirov said.
He added that Azerbaijan will showcase its innovative construction projects at the forum while simultaneously gaining exposure to the latest international expertise in sustainable urban development, reinforcing the country’s ambition to become a regional leader in forward-looking urban planning.
The 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13), organised by UN-Habitat, will take place in Baku from May 17 to 22, gathering policymakers, urban planners, development specialists, and civil society leaders worldwide to explore sustainable urban development and the future of cities.
