Azerbaijan and Colombia discuss expanding cooperation in multiple fields
Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev has held talks with Colombia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Juana Esperanza Castro Santamaria during her visit to Azerbaijan, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties across several sectors.
In a statement on social media platform X, Hajiyev said the discussions were constructive and reflected a positive trajectory in political dialogue between the two countries.

“We held fruitful discussions with Ms. Juana Esperanza Castro Santamaria, Deputy Foreign Minister of Colombia during her visit to Azerbaijan,” he noted. “The current level of political dialogue between our countries is encouraging.”
He emphasised that both sides see considerable opportunities to deepen cooperation beyond political engagement, particularly in economic and trade relations, as well as in cultural, humanitarian, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
The talks also addressed shared challenges related to landmines, with both Azerbaijan and Colombia affected by the issue. Hajiyev underlined the importance of cooperation and knowledge-sharing in demining efforts.
“Both Azerbaijan and Colombia are affected by the problem of landmines, and we also addressed opportunities for cooperation and the exchange of experience in this area,” he stated.
Hajiyev also expressed appreciation to the Colombian side for its support in promoting the Spanish language in Azerbaijan.
