Azerbaijan appeals to ICAO following Iran’s drone attack

Azerbaijan has submitted a report to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regarding the drone attack by Iran on Nakhchivan International Airport, according to the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport .

Under the Convention on International Civil Aviation of December 7, 1944, and the standards of Annex 17 on Aviation Security, member states are required to submit an initial report to ICAO in the event of unlawful interference with airport operations. 

In line with these regulations, the State Civil Aviation Agency under Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Digital Development and Transport filed a preliminary report on the incident with ICAO.

On March 5, drones launched from Iranian territory struck locations in Nakhchivan. One drone hit the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another fell near a school in the village of Shakarabad. The airport attack resulted in injuries to four civilians.
