Azerbaijan army launches shooting championship to enhance combat readiness Photo
A shooting championship among servicemen of the Azerbaijan Army has commenced in line with the military’s 2026 training plan, aiming to strengthen practical combat skills and operational proficiency.
The opening ceremony began with a minute of silence in honour of Heydar Aliyev, the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, and those who lost their lives in service to the country. The National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was then performed, Caliber.Az reports per the Defence Ministry.
During the initial stage of the competition, participating teams underwent a draw to determine their order. Servicemen were subsequently briefed on safety protocols and the rules governing the event.
According to the competition programme, participants will carry out a series of practical shooting exercises, engaging targets positioned at varying distances. The championship will conclude with awards presented to the top-performing servicemen in both individual and team categories.
The primary objective of the competition is to improve the practical shooting skills and overall combat readiness of military personnel, in accordance with established standards for organising sports and military competitions within the Azerbaijan Army.
