Azerbaijan, Austria discuss Iran drone attacks, evacuation efforts
On 5 March 2026, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held a phone conversation with Austria’s Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, Beate Meinl-Reisinger.
During the call, Minister Bayramov provided detailed information on recent drone attacks launched from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran against Azerbaijan. He stressed that these attacks constitute a serious violation of international law and increase regional tensions, Caliber.Az reports via the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
Minister Meinl-Reisinger strongly condemned the attacks and reaffirmed Austria’s solidarity with Azerbaijan. Both sides highlighted the importance of preventing further escalation in the Middle East, strengthening diplomatic efforts, and respecting international legal norms.
The Austrian minister also thanked Azerbaijan for facilitating the evacuation of Austrian citizens from Iran through Azerbaijani territory.
The ministers additionally discussed other issues of mutual interest.
