Azerbaijan advances ties with Belarus and Bahamas through new agreements PHOTO

Azerbaijan has strengthened its diplomatic cooperation with Belarus and the Bahamas through new agreements aimed at expanding bilateral ties, institutional coordination and political dialogue. 

The documents were signed following meetings between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and his Belarusian counterpart Maxim Ryzhenkov and Bahamian Foreign Minister Fred Mitchell on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry.

During his meeting with Ryzhenkov, Bayramov discussed the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Belarus and prospects for its further development. The sides emphasised the important role of high-level political dialogue and contacts between the leaders of the two countries in strengthening bilateral ties, as well as the role of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission in developing trade and economic cooperation. 

They also highlighted the importance of close coordination within the UN, Commonwealth of Independent States, Non-Aligned Movement and other multilateral platforms.

Following the bilateral talks, the foreign ministers signed the “Cooperation Plan between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus for the years 2027–2028.”

The sides also signed the “Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus on consular affairs.” 

The documents are expected to further strengthen the institutional foundations of the partnership and bring bilateral coordination to a new level in the coming years.

In his meeting with Mitchell, Bayramov discussed prospects for developing bilateral and multilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the Bahamas, with the sides exchanging views on matters of mutual interest.

The ministers emphasised the importance of establishing a strategic dialogue between the two countries and identifying and developing new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Following the meeting, the “Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas” was signed.

The document is expected to promote regular diplomatic contacts and consultations between the two foreign ministries, while providing a basis for further expanding Azerbaijan-Bahamas relations and developing new areas of cooperation.
