Azerbaijan calls for regional security, economic cooperation at CIS council

Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov attended the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, delivering a comprehensive address on regional cooperation, cultural initiatives, and security challenges.

As reported by Caliber.Az, the press service of Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry shared the highlights of the minister’s speech on social network X.

Emphasising Azerbaijan’s commitment to cultural diplomacy, Minister Bayramov noted the successful hosting of the 3rd CIS Games in Azerbaijan, held from 28 September to 8 October. He also expressed gratitude for the support of Lachin’s candidacy as the CIS Cultural Capital 2025, highlighting that numerous cultural events are already underway to showcase the city’s unique heritage.

On security issues, he underlined the importance of coordinated efforts to combat terrorism, extremism, and transnational organized crime, and welcomed the forthcoming adoption of joint documents in these areas.

Marking the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, Minister Bayramov recalled its enduring humanitarian and environmental impact, paying tribute to the victims and the rescuers, including Azerbaijani citizens who contributed to mitigation efforts.

Turning to economic cooperation, he emphasised Azerbaijan’s focus on expanding mutually beneficial trade with CIS partners, noting steady growth as a positive indicator of regional collaboration.

Concluding his remarks, the minister reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening trust and fostering constructive dialogue within the CIS framework.
