Azerbaijan calls on international community to support comprehensive demining efforts
Azerbaijan has appealed to the global community for robust political, financial, and technical assistance to facilitate the complete demining of its territories, underscoring the critical importance of this issue within the broader framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The appeal was made by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Irfan Davudov, during his address at the international seminar “Towards a Mine-Free World,” Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Highlighting the urgency of coordinated international cooperation, Ambassador Davudov stressed that effective demining is essential for ensuring the safety of civilians and enabling socio-economic development in affected regions. He emphasized that the challenge of landmines remains a significant barrier to peace, stability, and sustainable growth in Azerbaijan.
Drawing particular attention to Malaysia’s influential role in regional and international forums, Davudov expressed hope that the Malaysian government would respond positively to Azerbaijan’s call for support. “We expect the Malaysian government to make a positive decision. Any assistance will be highly appreciated,” he affirmed.
