Azerbaijan, Cambodia seek to expand parliamentary cooperation PHOTO
Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with Thun Vathana, a member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Cambodian People’s Party and Deputy Speaker of the Cambodian Senate, during his visit to Azerbaijan, according to the Milli Majlis press service.
During the meeting, the two sides emphasised that despite the geographical distance between their countries, Azerbaijan and Cambodia maintain friendly relations, while the existing political dialogue provides opportunities to broaden cooperation across various sectors, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The officials also highlighted mutual support within the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, and other international organisations, underscoring the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral ties.
Gafarova recalled her official visit to Cambodia and stressed the importance of the memorandum of understanding signed between Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis and Cambodia’s National Assembly. She also noted the value of cooperation within international parliamentary platforms.
For his part, Vathana said that Cambodia places significant importance on its relations with Azerbaijan, including parliamentary engagement, and highlighted the contribution of reciprocal visits and parliamentary friendship groups to advancing bilateral cooperation.
The discussions also covered participation in the international conference, “Regional Contribution to Global Security: Peacebuilding in the South Caucasus,” which is scheduled to take place in Shusha. The parties exchanged views on a range of other issues of mutual interest.
