Azerbaijan, Canada discuss regional security and citizen evacuation from Iran
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, held a phone conversation with Anita Anand, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, on March 1 to discuss regional security concerns and citizen evacuation arrangements.
During the call, both ministers expressed deep concern over the recent military escalation and rising security risks in the region, Caliber.Az reports via the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
They emphasised the importance of preventing further escalation, increasing diplomatic efforts, and upholding the norms and principles of international law in addressing the situation.
Minister Anita Anand expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for facilitating the transit of Canadian citizens through Azerbaijani territory during the military escalation in Iran last June. She noted that the operational and humanitarian support provided at that time was highly appreciated.
Given the current security situation, the ministers also exchanged views on potential arrangements for using Azerbaijan’s borders for the evacuation of Canadian citizens from Iran, should the need arise.
