Azerbaijan, Canada strengthen partnership to address mine threat
Samir Poladov, Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan Republic Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), recently met with Robert Sinclair, Director General for Arctic, Eurasian, and European Affairs of the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Holly White, Second Secretary of the Canadian Embassy in Türkiye, who is also accredited in Azerbaijan. The meeting took place during their visit to Baku.
ANAMA told Azertag that during the meeting, Poladov briefed the guests on the mine problem in Azerbaijan's liberated territories, detailing the impacts of land contamination by mines and unexploded ordnance, and the ongoing efforts to combat the mine threat.
Poladov emphasized that mine action in Azerbaijan is primarily conducted using the country's internal resources but highlighted the need for international support to address the humanitarian consequences of mines and enhance mine safety.
Robert Sinclair reiterated that combating the mine threat is a global priority for Canada and expressed Canada's intention to cooperate with Azerbaijan in various areas, including humanitarian demining.
