Azerbaijan, Central African Republic establish diplomatic relations

Azerbaijan and the Central African Republic have formally established diplomatic relations, opening a new avenue for cooperation between the two countries.

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Sylvie Baïpo-Temon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie and Central Africans Abroad of the Central African Republic, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Caliber.Az reports.

The sides discussed prospects for bilateral relations, with Azerbaijan highlighting the strategic importance it attaches to strengthening ties with African countries and expanding cooperation in political, economic, cultural, educational and scientific fields.

The ministers also reviewed cooperation within the United Nations, African Union and other multilateral platforms.

They welcomed the participation of Central African Republic students in Azerbaijan’s educational scholarship programmes established for citizens of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Non-Aligned Movement member states.

During the meeting, Bayramov and Baïpo-Temon signed the “Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Central African Republic.”

According to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, the document opens a new chapter in relations between the two countries and provides a foundation for expanding bilateral contacts in the years ahead.
