Azerbaijan commences candidate registration for snap parliamentary elections

13 July 2024 09:36

Azerbaijan has officially launched the process of accepting documents for candidate registration in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The District Election Commissions (DECs) started this process as outlined in the "Calendar Plan on basic activities and measures for preparation and conduct of the early elections to the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan", Caliber.Az reports per local media.

The candidate registration period runs from July 13 to August 2, 2024, concluding at 18:00 local time. Under the Article 58 of the Electoral Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, candidates or authorized representatives of political parties or blocs must submit their documentation within this timeframe. The required documents for registration include:

-Signature lists with voters' signatures collected in support of the nominated candidate.

-Two copies of the protocol on the result of the collection of voters' signatures, as prescribed by the Central Election Commission.

-Notification of any changes in the candidate's information as per Articles 53.3 and 54.8 of the Electoral Code.

-Information on the candidate's income sources and amounts.

-Information on the property owned by the candidate.

-Preliminary financial report detailing the funds spent on organizing the collection of voters' signatures.

This registration process follows the June 28, 2024, decree by President Ilham Aliyev, which dissolved the Milli Majlis of the 6th convocation and called for extraordinary parliamentary elections. The elections are scheduled to take place on September 1, 2024.
