Azerbaijan condemns Iranian drone attacks on Nakhchivan

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned drone attacks launched from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic earlier today.

According to an official statement, one drone struck the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another fell near a school building in the village of Shakarabad, causing damage to the airport and injuring two civilians.

“On March 5, around midday, drone attacks were carried out from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan.

One drone struck the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another drone fell near a school building in the village of Shakarabad.

We strongly condemn these drone attacks from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which caused damage to the airport building and injuries to two civilians.

These attacks on Azerbaijani territory violate the norms and principles of international law and contribute to increased tension in the region.

We demand that the Islamic Republic of Iran promptly clarify this matter, provide an explanation, and take the necessary urgent measures to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.

The Azerbaijani side reserves the right to take appropriate retaliatory measures.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilu, has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Iran has been issued a strong protest, and a corresponding diplomatic note will be delivered,” the statement reads.
