Azerbaijan congratulates Palestine on National Day PHOTO
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has extended its congratulations to Palestine on the occasion of its National Day.
In a post on its official social media account, the ministry said: "On the occasion of the Palestine National Day, we convey our heartfelt congratulations to the people and government of Palestine. Happy Palestine National Day!"
On November 15, Palestinians observe National Day (the anniversary of their 1988 Declaration of Independence), remembering when the Palestine National Council met in Algiers and proclaimed the establishment of the State of Palestine.
In the declaration, read by Yasser Arafat, Palestinians affirmed their right to self-determination, with Jerusalem as their capital, under a democratic parliamentary system that protects political, religious, and human rights.
The document renounced terrorism and endorsed UN Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338 as the basis for future peace negotiations — a symbolic “historic compromise.”
Following the declaration, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 43/177, which acknowledged the proclamation of Palestine and directed the use of “Palestine” instead of “Palestine Liberation Organisation” in UN systems.
