Azerbaijan congratulates Uzbekistan on 30 years of diplomatic ties

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has extended congratulations to Uzbekistan on the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

According to a statement posted on the ministry’s official X page, Azerbaijan hailed Uzbekistan as a “brotherly” nation and celebrated three decades of bilateral cooperation.

"Congratulations to brotherly Uzbekistan on the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan!," the ministry said.

The establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan on October 2, 1995, marked a pivotal moment for two post-Soviet nations emerging from the USSR's dissolution in 1991. Both republics, rich in Turkic heritage and shared cultural roots, quickly forged a "brotherly" partnership, emphasising mutual respect and solidarity.

Over three decades, cooperation has flourished across multiple fronts. Economically, bilateral trade has grown, focusing on energy—leveraging Azerbaijan's oil and gas expertise with Uzbekistan's natural resources—and agriculture. In 2024, trade volume exceeded $500 million, bolstered by joint ventures in textiles and machinery.

Politically, high-level visits, including President Ilham Aliyev's 2019 trip to Tashkent, have strengthened ties within the Organisation of Turkic States.

Culturally, exchanges in education, tourism, and sports underscore their affinity. Uzbekistan's support for Azerbaijan during the Second Karabakh War exemplified unwavering solidarity. 

Today, as Azerbaijan congratulates its "brotherly" neighbour, the anniversary reaffirms an enduring alliance, poised for deeper integration in the Eurasian landscape.
