Azerbaijan earns top rating for tax transparency from OECD PHOTO

22 November 2024 19:33

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has awarded Azerbaijan the highest rating of "compliant," signifying full adherence to international standards.

This rating reflects the high level of transparency in Azerbaijan's tax system and its alignment with global standards, the Azerbaijani State Tax Service told Caliber.Az.

Since joining the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes in 2013, Azerbaijan has been actively participating in evaluation processes. Following the latest assessment phase covering 2016–2024, the country demonstrated a high level of transparency in information exchange, which was confirmed through a visit by forum experts and an analysis of the legislative framework, practices in legal entities’ registration, tax return filing, and the storage of accounting records.

The State Tax Service noted that since 2019, these evaluations have become more in-depth, with Azerbaijan becoming the fifth country to achieve the highest "compliant" rating. This result highlights the transparency of the country's tax system, its alignment with international standards, and the high level of trust Azerbaijan has earned from the international community.

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is an international organisation that works to build better policies for better lives. OECD draws on more than 60 years of experience and insights to shape policies that foster prosperity and opportunity, underpinned by equality and well-being.

OECD works closely with policy makers, stakeholders and citizens to establish evidence-based international standards and to find solutions to social, economic and environmental challenges. From improving economic performance and strengthening policies to fight climate change to bolstering education and fighting international tax evasion, the OECD is a unique forum and knowledge hub for data, analysis and best practices in public policy. OECD core aim is to set international standards and support their implementation – and help countries forge a path towards stronger, fairer and cleaner societies.
