Azerbaijan, Ecuador hold first political consultations Photo
On May 4–5, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov paid an official visit to Ecuador, marking a step forward in bilateral relations between the two nations.
During the visit, the first round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Ecuador took place in the capital, Quito. The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Mammadov, while the Ecuadorian side was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Alejandro Dávalos, Caliber.Az reports per the Foreign Ministry.
Talks focused on the current state of relations and opportunities for expanding cooperation across political, economic, humanitarian, energy, cultural, and tourism sectors. Both sides emphasised the importance of strengthening ties between relevant institutions to boost collaboration in agriculture, business, and investment.
At the conclusion of the consultations, the parties signed a protocol formalising the discussions, along with an agreement to waive visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, official, and service passports.
As part of his visit, Mammadov delivered a lecture titled “The Foreign Policy of Azerbaijan” at Ecuador’s Diplomatic Academy. He also gave interviews to the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry’s press service and the state-run outlet El Telegrafo.
The visit additionally included a meeting with Azerbaijani business representatives operating in Ecuador.
