Azerbaijan establishes Baku Urban Award at WUF13

A special award has been established in connection with the 13th session of the World Urban Forum 13 (WUF13), currently taking place in Baku.

The announcement was made by Anar Guliyev, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, during a briefing with journalists on May 17, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Guliyev stated that the newly established distinction has been named the “Baku Urban Award.”

“From now on, a ceremony for presenting this award, which is inseparably linked with the name of Baku, will be held within the framework of every World Urban Forum,” he emphasised.

The chairman also noted that expectations for WUF13 in Baku are “very high,” stressing that the Azerbaijani capital has brought together international guests to discuss pressing issues related to urban planning and sustainable development.

“A platform for productive work has been created here. I believe this is the main issue,” Guliyev said.

He further highlighted that participants of the forum will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with projects being implemented across Azerbaijan, particularly in the field of urban development and modern city planning.

The 13th session of the World Urban Forum officially opened in Baku on May 17, bringing together government officials, urban planners, international organisations, and experts from around the world to discuss the future of sustainable cities and urban transformation.
