High-level discussions between Azerbaijan and the European Union (EU) on energy partnership and climate action have marked significant progress, the Ministry of Energy said following a meeting between Minister Parviz Shahbazov and European Commissioner for Climate Action Wopke Hoekstra.
The talks, held in anticipation of the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku this November, emphasized the EU's keen interest in collaborating with Azerbaijan within the framework of the "green energy corridor", Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
This initiative aims to enhance renewable energy supply routes connecting Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary, thereby bolstering Europe's energy security with sustainable sources.
Commissioner Hoekstra underscored the EU's commitment to supporting Azerbaijan's efforts in energy transition and applauded the country's priorities outlined for COP29.
The meeting also saw discussions on joint initiatives proposed by the European Commission's Directorate General for Energy (DG ENER) to be held on the sidelines of COP29, highlighting mutual cooperation in promoting the UAE Consensus and combating climate change.
