Azerbaijan, EU hold talks on political dialogue, cooperation
Azerbaijan and the European Union have discussed the development of political dialogue and broader cooperation during a meeting between Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and an EU delegation led by Olof Skoog, Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs at the European External Action Service (EEAS).
The talks focused on the current state of and future prospects for Azerbaijan–EU relations, regional security, the post-conflict situation, and the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.
The sides also exchanged views on other regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Particular attention was given to strengthening political dialogue and expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union, with emphasis on energy security, transport, green energy, and related fields. The Azerbaijani side’s role in supporting Europe’s energy security was highly praised, with discussions covering renewable energy projects, energy efficiency initiatives, and electricity exports.
The importance of developing the region’s transport and communications infrastructure was also highlighted, including the modernization of existing routes and the creation of new transport corridors.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on ongoing negotiations over a new Azerbaijan–EU bilateral agreement and the Partnership Priorities document.
The parties discussed efforts to ensure sustainable peace and stability in the region and reviewed the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization process. The Azerbaijani side informed the delegation about reconstruction work in territories liberated from occupation and ongoing efforts to address the mine threat.
Olof Skoog, in turn, shared impressions from his visit to the territories liberated from occupation.
