Azerbaijan evacuates 60 foreign nationals from Iran in 24 hours PHOTO
Around 60 foreign citizens were evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan through the Astara border crossing over the past 24 hours.
From March 1 until 10:00 today, March 2, about 40 Russian citizens, 20 Pakistani citizens, and 2 Tajik citizens crossed the border, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Another large group of Russian citizens is currently expected to arrive. To recall, yesterday alone, around 500 Russian citizens were evacuated from Iran at Moscow's request.
The evacuation comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
On February 28, the U.S. and Israel launched a military operation against Iran, carrying out airstrikes on several cities. In response, Iran fired missiles at Israeli territory and attacked American military bases in the Gulf region.
Due to the tense situation, several countries in the region have temporarily closed their airspace.
