Azerbaijan explores cooperation with UNESCO Foreign Minister meets Egypt's candidate
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Khaled El-Enany, Egypt's candidate for the post of director-general of the United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
The sides exchanged views on cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO, as well as regional issues, the Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
FM Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan has made a great contribution to UNESCO’s activities, including the development and promotion of intercultural dialogue since its membership in the Organization, stressed the importance of the "Baku Process" and the initiatives put forward in the educational and humanitarian spheres.
The Azerbaijani FM also provided an insight into the history of the former Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, the occupation of Azerbaijani territories, the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period. The Minister talked about how Armenia destroyed the cultural heritage of the country. He emphasized that although for more than 20 years Azerbaijan appealed to UNESCO to send a mission to the territories to assess the damage caused by Armenia, Yerevan prevented it in every possible way, and this fact is reflected in the UNESCO report for 2005.
In conclusion, Bayramov wished the candidate success in the election campaign.
