Azerbaijan extends detention period of Karabakh junta former leaders
The requests from the Investigative Directorate of the Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office and the prosecutor overseeing the preliminary investigation have been considered for the extension of the detention of the so-called "presidents" of the illegal separatist regime in Karabakh.
A total of 14 members of the separatist regime, including Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, former "foreign minister" David Babayan, as well as "parliament chairman" David Ishkhanyan, General David Manukyan, and others, have been held accountable in this case, the Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office told Caliber.Az.
The case was investigated under the supervision of the General Prosecutor's Office by a team that included personnel from the Military Prosecutor's Office, State Security Service, State Border Service, Interior Ministry and other investigative agencies.
The Baku Binagadi District Court has ruled to extend the detention period for each of the accused.
Earlier, the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited Armenian detainees in Azerbaijan in August. The information about them was provided by the Azerbaijani side.
The visits included one-on-one meetings with the detainees and arrangements were made for them to communicate with their families. In line with its mandate, the ICRC assesses the conditions of detention and treatment during such visits and facilitates the renewal or maintenance of detainees' contact with their families. Observations and recommendations from these visits are shared and discussed solely with the detaining party.
