Azerbaijan extradites Uzbek national wanted for insulting president
Azerbaijan has extradited an Uzbek citizen who was on an international wanted list over charges related to insulting the president of Uzbekistan, the country’s General Prosecutor's Office reported.
Yusupov Amonbek Abdulkhakovich, born in 1982, was handed over to Uzbek authorities following a formal request from Uzbekistan’s General Prosecutor’s Office. He is accused of committing a criminal offense involving the humiliation of the honour and dignity of the President of Uzbekistan, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Yusupov was detained in Azerbaijan in April 2025 and remained in custody after a local court imposed a pre-trial arrest as a measure of restraint.
The extradition was carried out in accordance with the 2002 Convention “On Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family and Criminal Cases.” He was transferred to Uzbekistan under the escort of a special convoy from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Justice Prison Service.
