Azerbaijan, Federated States of Micronesia establish diplomatic relations
Azerbaijan and the Federated States of Micronesia have formally established diplomatic relations, according to a Joint Communiqué signed on June 1, 2026, in New York.
The agreement was signed by Tofig Musayev, Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the United Nations, and Jim Lipwe, Permanent Representative of the Federated States of Micronesia to the UN, Caliber.Az reports via Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry.
The Joint Communiqué states the two countries’ intention to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between their governments and peoples. It also underscores that the establishment of diplomatic relations is based on the principles of the UN Charter and international law, including respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs.
A letter has been submitted to the UN Secretary-General requesting that the communiqué be circulated as an official UN document.
