Azerbaijan, Germany simplify recognition of official documents
Azerbaijan and Germany have simplified procedures for the recognition of official documents, fully abolishing consular legalization.
Azerbaijani Ambassador to Germany Nasimi Aghayev announced the development on the social media platform X, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
He said that, as a result of long-standing joint efforts between the two countries, new rules have entered into force under which documents no longer require legalization through embassies. Instead, the apostille procedure will be applied.
The diplomat noted that both countries are parties to the Hague Apostille Convention, under which an apostille alone is sufficient for document recognition.
“From March 2026, the provisions of the Convention have fully come into force in relations between Azerbaijan and Germany. Now documents issued in Germany are recognized in Azerbaijan with an apostille without additional certification at the embassy, and vice versa,” he explained.
According to Aghayev, the change will significantly simplify administrative procedures for citizens and serve as further evidence of strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
