Azerbaijan, GICHD consult on expanded cooperation on humanitarian demining
Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of the Mine Action Agency of Azerbaijan (ANAMA), has held talks in Baku with Ambassador Tobias Privitelli, Director of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), to review cooperation on clearing landmines and unexploded ordnance.
ANAMA said Ambassador Privitelli was briefed on the scale of mine contamination in Azerbaijan and on the agency’s ongoing clearance, risk-education and technical operations, Caliber.Az reports.
The two sides also discussed progress under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier this year, which sets out GICHD’s support for Azerbaijan’s mine-action programmes.
According to the agency, the meeting touched on potential areas for deeper collaboration, including training and experience exchange, information-management systems, the use of new technologies, capacity building and joint project opportunities.
Thomas Stähli, Switzerland’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, took part in the discussions.
