Azerbaijan, Global Council for Tolerance and Peace sign MoU ON SIDELINES OF COP29
The Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan and the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Parliamentary Meeting held on the sidelines of COP29.
The MoU was signed on November 16, the International Day for Tolerance, by Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, and Ahmed Bin Mohamed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
The signing of the document coincided with the International Day for Tolerance, which was first declared in 1995 by UNESCO following the adoption of the "Declaration of Principles on Tolerance" at its General Conference.
The Parliamentary Meeting, organized jointly by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, is being held in Baku on the margins of COP29. The two-day event brought together 92 delegations from 66 countries and international organizations, with over 330 participants, including 167 MPs, 12 speakers, and deputy speakers.
During the sessions of the Parliamentary Meeting, key issues will be discussed, including the real impacts of climate change, the role of parliaments in strengthening ambitious mitigation measures, and ensuring that climate commitments are implemented at the national level. Other topics include the development of a global climate finance architecture, building resilience to climate change, promoting inclusiveness and equity, and the use of technology in combating climate change.
A series of bilateral meetings are also scheduled as part of the event.
