Baku hosting "Green STEAM Azerbaijan" international festival
The opening ceremony of the International Festival "Green STEAM Azerbaijan" is being held in Baku on October 24.
The ceremony was organised through the support of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Science and Education and under the Presidency of the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29), as well as the STEAM Azerbaijan project. Over 900 participants from 15 countries, including the UK, Türkiye, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the US, are participating in the festival, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The training sessions on climate change and sustainability, organised by experts from the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company, will be held during the two-day festival. The primary goal of this year's festival is to promote STEAM-based education, develop 21st-century skills among learners, and identify creative students.
Moreover, the festival aims to facilitate the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan, while fostering environmental wellness through a STEAM approach.
This aligns with the declaration of 2024 as the "Green World Solidarity Year" in Azerbaijan, encouraging innovative solutions and projects focused on the efficient use of water resources and alternative energy sources.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Azerbaijan this November. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary session in Dubai on December 11, 2023.
During two weeks, Baku will become a global hub, welcoming around 70,000 to 80,000 international guests. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, aimed at preventing dangerous human interference with the climate system.
The abbreviation COP means "Conference of the Parties" and refers to the highest decision-making body responsible for overseeing the implementation of the UNFCCC. The Convention has 198 member states. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, the COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in Berlin in March 1995, and its secretariat is based in Bonn.
