Azerbaijan's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) convened leading crime-prevention experts from 12 countries at an international scientific and practical conference titled “Actual problems of combating crime,” held at the MIA Police Academy.

Representatives from Türkiye, Hungary, Poland, Moldova, Georgia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and the Kyrgyz Republic attended the event, Caliber.Az reports, citing the ministry.

Representatives of the Milli Majlis and various MIA departments—alongside faculty members, postgraduate researchers, and doctoral candidates from Baku State University, the Police Academy, and the National Aviation Academy—were also in attendance.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Police Lieutenant General Ismat Aliyev, opened the conference, welcoming participants and underscoring the event’s purpose: to discuss innovative strategies for combating crime, assess effective legal mechanisms, and exchange global best practices in law enforcement.

Speakers delivered in-depth analyses of criminal law and criminological approaches, modern crime patterns, and emerging threats. Discussions also focused on new categories of criminal activity, theoretical and practical challenges in addressing them, and prospects for enhancing the performance of law enforcement bodies, investigative agencies, and judicial institutions.

Key priorities identified during the conference included improving the regulatory framework, adapting legal systems to evolving security challenges, and developing updated legislation on cybersecurity and digital evidence.

Participants also exchanged views on strengthening cross-border cooperation among law enforcement agencies, accelerating the exchange of operational information, organizing joint training and capacity-building programs, expanding centralized databases, and advancing scientific and analytical work. The development of new research initiatives in statistical and criminological crime analysis was highlighted as a further priority.

International delegates praised Azerbaijan’s organization of the conference and expressed strong satisfaction with their cooperation with the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry.
