Azerbaijan, Hungary collaborate on green transition, climate initiatives Ahead of COP29
A roundtable discussion titled “Green transition and climate change: Theoretical and practical approaches to COP29” was convened under the auspices of the Hungarian Embassy in Azerbaijan and the Topchubashov Centre on October 11.
The event brought together representatives from both Azerbaijan and Hungary to explore collaborative efforts in addressing climate change, Caliber.Az reports.
Hungarian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Tamás Torma, emphasized the strengthening of friendly relations between the two nations and highlighted Azerbaijan's increasing significance as an energy partner for Europe. His remarks set the stage for a fruitful dialogue on sustainable development and environmental responsibility.
During the discussions, moderated by Rusif Huseynov, Director of the Topchubashov Centre, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29 Azerbaijan Nigar Arpadarai outlined Baku's strategic goals for the upcoming COP29, emphasizing the critical nature of this global climate mission.
Elmir Musayev, Director of SOCAR Green, detailed the company's initiatives aimed at fostering sustainability both domestically and internationally, including its ambitious strategy to achieve zero emissions by 2050.
Additionally, Shahmar Hajiyev, Senior Advisor at the Center for Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), underscored the importance of effectively communicating Azerbaijan's positions regarding the COP29 agenda to a global audience.
Hungary's Deputy State Secretary for Climate Policy, Daniella Deli, praised Azerbaijan's ambitions to serve as a regional hub for sustainable development and green energy, sharing insights from Hungary’s experience in the development of alternative energy sources.
