Azerbaijan's Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev met with a delegation from the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) on June 29 to discuss expanding cooperation on efforts to locate and identify missing persons.

The delegation was led by ICMP Director-General Kathryne Bomberger, according to Azerbaijan's Prosecutor General's Office, Caliber.Az reports per local media

During the meeting, Aliyev said the Prosecutor General's Office and the ICMP have maintained effective cooperation since 2023. He stressed the importance of exchanging information on missing persons, describing it as essential to protecting the rights of victims' families. He also said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attaches special importance to the issue.

Aliyev briefed the delegation on Azerbaijan's efforts to locate people who, according to Azerbaijani authorities, were tortured, killed and buried in mass graves, as well as the ongoing identification of recovered human remains.

Bomberger welcomed the cooperation between the two sides and praised Azerbaijan's system for collecting and exchanging data on missing persons. She also introduced the ICMP's new Missing Persons Data Management System, with both sides discussing its capabilities and possible improvements.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to organise reciprocal study visits and exchange expertise to further strengthen cooperation in the field of missing persons.
