Azerbaijan, ICRC discuss cooperation, regional issues UPDATED/ PHOTO
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Jeyhun Bayramov and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) President Mirjana Spoljaric Egger highlighted the role of the ICRC as an international humanitarian mediator.
During the meeting, it was emphasised that such directions as support for conflict victims, clarification of the fate of missing Azerbaijanis, and educational work on mines and explosives in the territories liberated from the occupation are of great importance in Azerbaijan's cooperation with the ICRC, Caliber.Az reports.
The Azerbaijani side also stressed the necessity of parallel use of the Aghdam-Khankendi and Lachin-Khankendi roads to fulfil the needs of the Armenian residents through the ICRC in compliance with the legislation of Azerbaijan and relevant procedures.
He noted that despite the agreements reached, Armenia and the fictitious regime it had created had flagrantly violated them. Bayramov underlined that Armenia's allegations of a "blockade" were unfounded, as the crossing of Armenian residents along the Lachin road in both directions was currently ensured on a daily basis.
The minister also stressed that the obstruction of the delivery of goods to the territory through Azerbaijan is a political manipulation, another attempt of Armenia to foment separatism.
During the meeting, the illegal actions of Armenia after the 44-day war, such as the transfer of mines and weapons along the Lachin road and the rotation of the military personnel were also mentioned.

The meeting was held during the Azerbaijani minister’s visit to Switzerland against the backdrop of the blocking of the passage of the Russian Red Cross Society’s aid cargo to Khankendi by the separatists along with the ICRC. Although the truck has now arrived in Khankendi, its arrival was delayed by a few days.
The ICRC, which publicly supports the issue of the delivery of cargo along the Aghdam-Khankendi road, in reality artificially blocks it and puts pressure on the Russian Committee of the Red Cross.
It is worth recalling another case when the ICRC staff was caught by Azerbaijani border guards while smuggling goods.
