Azerbaijan - important partner, ally of Russia in Caspian region

The Russian Foreign Ministry has said that Azerbaijan is an important partner and ally of Russia in the South Caucasus and the Caspian region.

“Relations between our countries are progressively developing in the spirit of the traditions of friendship and good neighbourliness. Everyday joint work is built on the principles of equality, mutual respect and each other's interests,” Report informs referring to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s message on the occasion of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s working visit to Azerbaijan on June 23-24.

Lavrov is expected to meet with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov during the visit to Baku.

The state and prospects of bilateral cooperation are planned to be discussed, as well as the views on the most topical aspects of the regional and international agenda, including the issues of normalising Azerbaijan-Armenia relations are planned to be exchanged.
