Azerbaijan Independence Day reception held for first time in Dominican Republic PHOTO
An official reception marking May 28, Azerbaijan’s Independence Day, was held for the first time in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, according to Azerbaijan’s Embassy in the Dominican Republic.
The event was attended by Dominican Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs and International Cooperation Hugo Francisco Rivera Fernández, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, parliament, government institutions, the diplomatic corps, and members of the media, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The ceremony opened with the national anthems of both countries.
Ruslan Rzayev spoke about the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the importance of this historical milestone in shaping the country’s independence, subsequent development, and growing international standing.
He also highlighted major international events hosted by Azerbaijan, including COP29, the European Games, the CIS Games, Formula 1, and the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13).
Fernández expressed gratitude for the reception and congratulated the Azerbaijani people on Independence Day. He noted the potential for expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, economy, tourism, and education.
During the event, promotional videos showcasing Azerbaijan’s tourism potential were screened, alongside an exhibition titled Icherisheher: Living Urban Heritage.
