19 June 2026 12:19

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Energy Minister Kamal Abbasov has expressed his country’s interest in strengthening energy cooperation with member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

Speaking at the 6th SCO Energy Ministers Meeting in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Abbasov said Azerbaijan attaches special importance to developing relations with the SCO and contributes to regional energy connectivity as a reliable energy partner and key transit hub, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

He highlighted the importance of energy security, sustainable development, the use of clean energy technologies, and enhanced international cooperation amid changes in the global energy landscape.

Participants underscored the strategic significance of the Central Asia–Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor project, which is expected to create new opportunities for energy connectivity among Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Türkiye, and China, while facilitating electricity transmission along the Middle Corridor that links Europe and Asia.

The meeting also expressed support for Kyrgyzstan’s accession to the initiative.

The ministry noted that Azerbaijan intends to continue contributing to constructive dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation within the SCO framework.
