Azerbaijan, Iran deepen military dialogue during defence ministers’ meeting video

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defence, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, met in Baku with an Iranian delegation led by Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, Iran’s Minister of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics, who is currently visiting Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence told Caliber.Az that the Iranian delegation began its visit by paying tribute at the Alley of Martyrs. The guests laid flowers at the graves of Azerbaijani citizens who gave their lives for the country’s independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty, and also placed a wreath at the Eternal Flame memorial.

An official welcoming ceremony then took place at the Ministry of Defence. The delegation inspected the honour guard, after which the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Iran were played. In line with diplomatic protocol, a commemorative note was entered into the Book of Honorary Guests.

During the meeting, Colonel General Hasanov highlighted the centuries-long history of relations between Azerbaijan and Iran, stressing that reciprocal visits and joint military exercises continue to strengthen bilateral ties.

Brigadier General Nasirzadeh, in turn, underlined that cooperation between the two countries, built on friendly and brotherly relations, plays an important role in further developing military ties.

The talks covered the current state of cooperation in the military and military-technical spheres, as well as collaboration in military education and scientific fields. The sides also discussed prospects for expanding these areas of cooperation.

In addition, the two delegations exchanged detailed views on regional security matters and a range of other issues of mutual interest.
